Description

On a typically wet autumnal day in Lakeland, Alfred has recorded a quintessential scene that succinctly describes life in the Langdale Valley. The rain pelts down on the village rooftops, wearing down the gutters which spill out over a solitary figure as they endure the Cumbrian  elements. The outlines of surrounding fells are blurred almost beyond recognition, while the local Church stands only as a silhouette. Gentle Cobalt Green elements marry with Indian Red in the stonework, together creating a genuine sense of place in this remarkable painting.
