Description

A favourite composition of William’s, looking south from Blake Fell to the imposing outline of Wetherlam, with one of the fell’s rock-bound tarns sitting quietly in the foreground.

Painted on Cox paper, named after the artist David Cox, William uses the burnt orange flecks of the rough surface to compliment the warm earthy tones of the fell top grasses. The eye is drawn to the Prussian blue of the tarn, more saturated than the wash used for the sky, and it’s contrast to the rich sepia reflections of the rocky outcrops surrounding the water.
