Description

Many rocky knolls form subsidiary summits that slope down from the sprawling Helvellyn Massif. Many of them command impressive views over Ullswater but none offers such a view along the entire 7-mile length of this snaking S-shaped body of water as Sheffield Pike.

Painted here at the turn of autumn, where bracken’s annual colour shift washes the hillsides with its burnt umber hues, a cooler air can be felt as the clouds roll in while the rocks to the right offer shelter. Just a short but steep walk out of Glenridding village, one can feel a touch  of wilderness and an appreciation of the sublime.
