Entirely handmade in an ancient watermill, Two Rivers Paper is created using pure cotton and linen fibres, pulped with Exmoor spring water. Unlike mass manufactured paper, the handmade qualities produce a highly receptive surface on which colour floats, then slowly absorbs, resulting in brighter, more vibrant paintings.
The addition of linen fibres in the papers result in an unusually tough surface which will resist much lifting out, scrubbing and re-working. The robust, acid free, chalk buffered paper can be used with confidence by professionals and leisure painters alike.
Two Rivers was formed in 1976 and relocated to Pitt Mill, Somerset in 1988. We are now one of the few commercial hand-mills operating in Europe. Our traditional skills have been recognised by The Heritage Crafts organisation as being critically endangered.
In 2021, Two Rivers moved its papermaking production to the East Quay Arts Centre in the coastal town of Watchet.
