Description

Oil of Spike Lavender is a solvent used by oil painters. It is made from the distilled oil of Spike Lavender (Lavandula Latifolia) a species of Lavender that naturally occurs around the North-Western rim of the Mediterranean, from Portugal to Italy.

Oil of Spike Lavender gives body to oil colours and improves adhesion to the lower layers of a painting. It evaporates far slower than Turpentine, which means that it gives off less of an odour. Paint layers thinned with Oil of Spike Lavender will stay wet for longer than those containing Turpentine. It is more often used for the finishing touches of a painting.
