Description
Troutbeck village is a series of hamlets and clusters of buildings that straggles along the side of the valley of the same name between Windermere and Kirkstone Pass. Here, William has painted one of the many farmyards that form such distinctive features of the village, along with two sheltering trees. The tranquility of this afternoon scene is heightened by the slope of the fells running south from the Kentmere valley, here painted a pale bluish grey in the background.
